Artistic Director

Melanie Baux has always loved being surrounded by music. Melanie has a Diploma in Music Performance from Mount Royal University and a Bachelor of Music Performance from the University of Manitoba. In concert, Melanie has performed with the University of Manitoba Orchestra, the Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, the Calgary Youth Orchestra, The Bach Festival Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. On the opera stage, she has appeared as Venus in Offenbach’s Orphée aux Enfers and Beth in Adamo’s Little Women. Melanie also performed as a Roster Singer for Cowtown Opera.
As a Musical Director Melanie has directed Grease, The Sound of Music, Eve: The True Story, The Lion King Jr., and The Little Mermaid Jr.
Melanie has sung in many professional choirs including Calgary Opera Chorus, Winnipeg Opera Chorus, Spiritus Chamber Choir, Ad Libitum, and The Winnipeg Singers. Melanie is a founding member of La Vie, an undirected vocal ensemble performing all genres of music. She has also been the Artistic Director of the Cochrane Young Singers for the past five seasons. Melanie frequently works as a clinician for choirs and has been a vocal coach and rehearsal lead for the Calgary Boys’ Choir.
Melanie teaches private voice lessons as well as group and private musical theatre classes, including a triple threat performance program. She frequently adjudicates musical theatre, classical voice, choral, and speech arts throughout Alberta. Her greatest joy comes from sharing her love of music with students and her three sons.
After participating in Swamp Donkey’s inaugural production as Music Director, Melanie is thrilled to be joining Swamp Donkey as Artistic Director!
